21st Century's US 75th Ranger Recon Uniform Set

Finally some new TUS items are hitting the shelves again. This is the new US 75th Ranger Recon uniform set.

It's been a while since I've gotten any new TUS poducts, partially because I've been low on funds, and partially because I've seen little in the way of new product. Then along came this uniform set which beckoned me and my wallet. As far as uniform sets go, this one is pretty good. Everything you see in the picture of the 75th Ranger on the back of the package is included in this set except for the gloves.

So what's included? Here's the list:
Green Ranger BDU's
Brown combat boots
Green Ranger cap
Sit harness
MP5 SD5
2 MP5 ammo pouches
2 canteens
1 modern universal ammo pouch
knife w/ sheath
Night vision goggles
1 Red smoke canister
The BDU's are nice and were made with a lot of room and length, so your super-soldier figs will fit into them nicely. It's typical TUS quality with buttoned front and at the cuffs. Nice details include the patches on the shoulder and the above the chest pockets. Your soldier will be automatically named "Watson" once he puts on the uniform as the name patch will imply. The cap is molded and fits most heads good enough if not a little tight. The cap is a good mold and sports the name patch "Watson" on the back. 21st Century even went the extra mile and painted the inside of the cap where you will find an orange swatch. The only thing wrong with the uniform is that it might be too big. The pants especially have too much room at the waist, so pulling down your soldiers pants will be easy if he's not wearing his belt.

The boots in this set are nicely detailed and well painted. I only found one thing wrong and that is that I had a hell of time putting them on. Even after warming them up to make them softer, I could not put the darn things on! I have never had this much trouble with boots before. I think they just molded the ankle too tight or something. I was so frustrated that I actually resorted to shaving off part of my SAM's heel to get the darn thing on! Maybe it's just the right boot that is molded too tight or maybe I just lost my touch, but either way, I'm left with a SAM with a shaved off heel and a boot that is missing some paint.
Next we come to the sit harness. This sit harness is different from the SEAL Team 5 version. If you found that one baffling, then this one will make you say huh? for the rest of the day. I'm still not sure if I've got it on right. In any case, it seems to be made pretty well and would be cool if not for the difficulty in figuring out how to put it on correctly. One other negative thing is the little plastic rings. Much like the rings on German breadbags, these will come off very easily and should be replaced with metal ones.
The MP5 SD5 is pretty much what you'd expect from 21st Century; no barrel hole, no markings, and only adequately detailed. This one comes with a three-point sling which is cool and is only marred by the little hooks used to attach it to the gun. The MP5 ammo pouches are new to the line and are well detailed but non-functional. The canteens are standard fare and the universal ammo pouch is pretty much the same except this time they have molded grenades in the pouches on the side.

Another new piece is the PVN 5 US Military Night Vision Goggles. This piece is pretty nice except there's just one problem--there's no straps for your SAM to wear the dang thing! There is a strap but it is non-adjustable and is obviously used to hang around the neck or on the shoulder.

The knife and sheath is nothing special, but the smoke grenade is worth mentioning because 21st Century is finally putting the markings on it. This one is labeled M 18 Smoke Red with a yellow stripe and within the yellow stripe is PB-12-55.

Overall, this is a nice set, but I don't think it's worth the 15 bucks I paid for it. But if you're starving for some new equipment and gear then it will do quite nicely.
