21st Century Toys' Seal Team 5 VBSS

Here it is! The Seal Team 5 VBSS boxed figure! This is one of the most anticipated figures of the year. So is the figure worth the wait? Is he the bad-ass SEAL we think he is?! Read on, troops!.

First things first, for those of you who don't know what VBSS stands for, it's Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure. Basically it means boarding ships at sea.

Well now that that's out of the way, let's take a look at this guys equipment list. His primary weapon is a M4 carbine with removeable clip and detachable ACOG sight. The sight is nice and detailed and fits into the aiming groove on the M4's handle. The secondary weapon is a SOCOM pistol (no laser aiming module) with detachable supressor. A new molded holster compliments the SOCOM well, I just wish the pouches on it were real! I mean, there's a molded pouch for the suppressor--if only you could actually store the suppressor in it, it would be perfect. Also, it would be nice if you could holster the SOCOM with the aiming module with this holster but I don't think you can (I can't find mine anywhere to test it).

He wears a green flight suit which is the same one as the helo pilot's but this one has an American flag on the left shoulder. He's got body armor with removeable trauma plates and over that he wears a tactical vest which is adjustable at the sides and opens in the front. The vest is made up of a mesh making it feel cheap and flimsy; it only looks good when worn over the body armor. He comes with six pouches in all, four for extra M4 ammo clips, one for pistol clips, and one first aid pouch I believe. These attach like the pouches on a SWAT vest--velcro. Oh yeah, and he's got an ultra cool sit harness! This thing is great and fits very snugly. It's a bit confusing to put on at first but you can figure it out eventually. If you have problems take a look at the pics to the left. He also comes with drop down flash crash pouches and a walkie talkie with pouch. The odd thing about the walkie talkie pouch is that instead of having velcro on the back, there is a hook for putting it on a belt! This makes no sense since it should be placed on the back of his vest. Thus, you're probably not going to be using this one; instead swap it for one of the SWAT ones which do have the velcro on the back. Next up is the headwear. He comes with a black balaclava and a cool black protec helmet which is painted white on the inside. So what is the orange thing on the top of his helmet? I believe its a beacon light or something--I honestly don't know. He also comes with goggles. The rest of his equipment include a pair of green gloves and a pair of black sneaker-type shoes (the same ones that come with the Stoner). The bad thing about using these shoes on this fig is that the flight suit's pant length has not been adjusted for the Super Soldier body so the pants don't really cover this guy's ankles which makes him look pretty lame. Get him some boots to remedy the situation. Overall it's a good equipment list with a lot of new equipment.

The headsculpt on this guy is pretty good and looks almost as good as the prototype. His face is painted well and doesn't look too much like a deadhead. One of the best headsculpts to come down the pike from 21st.

So I guess that pretty much wraps it up on this figure. One thing is kinda bugging me though. VBSS missions are for the most part close quarter battles, right? Shouldn't this guy have an MP5 or something instead of an M4? Perhaps he's one of the team's snipers. Oh well, this is really a great fig anyway you slice it and was well worth the money. Highly recommended!
