21st Century Toys' Soviet Spetznaz Uniform Set

I've had this set since it originally came out way back when. Decided to do a review since they've been showing again up at my local Toys R Us.

As far as 21st Century uniform sets go, this is a good one. Why is it good you ask? Because you get a good amount of stuff in this set. If I remember correctly, the boxed version doesn't come with much more than what you'll find in this carded set. So here's the rundown of items:
Pants, Field blouse, and undershirt
Backpack with harness
Belt
Hat
1 Small Pouch
1 Large pouch
Knife and sheath
Canteen
1 Shoulder Bag
AK 47 with collapsable stock
1 Pair of black boots
The quality of the pieces are typical of 21st Century. The pieces are good but they aren't great. The pouches and backpack are of course, molded and non-functioning. The backpack is pretty huge and is permenantly attached to the harness. The harness is not bad and really makes the figure look good. The uniform is not bad either and has good detail. The undershirt is nice piece and has horizontal blue stripes. You can probably use it for a civilian if you want. For some reason I picture a French guy in a berret wearing this shirt. I do have one problem with the pants though--they're too loose. You can easily pull down the pants at any given time! The belt does not help either since it is non-adjustable and just as loose. They might fit better on a Super Soldier body however.

The shoulder bag is just another hunk of plastic and as usual, doesn't have enough slack on the stap to rest comfortably on the shoulder without going into your soldier's armpit. The hat is also molded and fits good on most heads. It's nicely detailed and weathered although the paint on the star is a bit blotchy. The boots are nice mostly because they decided to paint the eyelets for the laces this time around and it makes a big difference.

This was a great set when I bought it almost a year ago because it came with so much stuff. It just feels complete unlike some other uniform sets. So as far as 21 Century uniform sets go, this is a good one. The sad thing is, I find myself collecting more and more Dragon products and hardly even looking at 21st Century stuff anymore. For a while they had a great product at a good value, but now with Dragon producing more and more stuff, it's hard to take 21st century products seriously. The bar has been raised and they have not changed to rise above it.
